Carrie staked out the place for days. She knew this guy's routine down to the T. He would be going out for dinner in 20 minutes. This guy never broke a date. She sat in her black Mitsubishi down the street from his house, just waiting. He was upstairs taking a shower. She could see the steam rising from his bathroom through her binoculars. She shifted in her seat, anxious to get that cane from his safe. She pulled out the picture of the cane again. It was supposed to be some sort of magical item. She checked her bag in the passenger seat to make sure her tools were there. The safe cracker was there, the lock picks too. She was ready. She just needed him to leave.
-----------------------------------
Cal stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel. He walked over to the window and glanced out. She was out there again. The same Mitsubishi. He wasn't going out like he usually did. He was, however, sending his butler out, giving him a night off. He should be leaving any minute. He told him he wanted him to leave around the same time he always did. He moved away from the window and continued dressing in his finest suit, just so she wouldn't suspicious. He wanted to find out what this woman had in mind. He thought she might be the police, but that car gave it away that she wasn't. The police force couldn't afford a stakeout car like that. He knew there were men that were watching him from some group his father was involved in, but they wouldn't send a woman. So, who was she? He slipped on his Rolex and decided to wait downstairs to find out. He turned off his bedroom light as he left the room.
-------------------------------------
-Carrie saw the car leave. It wasn't his normal car, but she figured maybe he would change up his routine for once. Her gut told her something was off, but she decided to ignore it. First time for everything. She waited til it turned at the end of the block before grabbing her back and slipping from the car. She locked the door and inched down the road. The shrubs were high enough to hide her from view of the house in case there were cameras. She didn't know if he had any hidden. As she got to the edge of the shrub line, she looked around and did a tuck and roll to the house. It was pitch black out. The moon was new and the street light across the road was burnt out. She noticed the same lights on inside as always. The lamp in the foyer; the back porch light, which shown out over the grass; and the lamp in his study. She went around the the side of the house and kept low. The side door was always dark, and was again tonight. She set her bag down and pulled out the lock picks. She made quick work of the lock and slowly, quietly opened the door.
----------------------------------------
Cal sat in the living room silently. He grinned when he heard the lock click and the door open. He'd turned off the alarms. She seemed to have forgotten about those. What was she after, he wondered. He listened to the soft footfalls down the hall. She had slipped off her shoes before she came through. Interesting.
----------------------------------------
Barefoot, Carrie quietly moved down the hall. She could feel the soft hum of the air conditioning unit under her feet. His hardwood floors were cool to the touch. She made her way to the room she knew his safe to be in. It was a library on the main floor. She opened the cabinet doors and set the bag down. She looked at the safe in awe. It was state-of-the-art, and hard to get a hold of. She crouched down and unzipped the bag slowly, not wanting to set off the sound sensors she knew he had. She pulled on her gloves, and pulled out her amplifier and put the device up to the safe lock. She slipped on the headphones and started by turning the tumbler slowly. She wrote the numbers on the wall of the safe as she went. Her gloves were thin. She got the final number and heard the tumbler click into place. She opened the safe slowly and saw the prize she sought. She slipped off her headphones and pulled the cane from the shelf.
---------------------------------------
Cal heard her enter his library and laughed silently. He stood up after hearing a zipper and waited a moment before walking over to the door. She had headphones on and an amplifier to the safe. He watched in amazement as she cracked his safe with ease. She was stunning. That tight suit she wore showed off all the curves she had to offer. She was toned, telling him she worked out. Maybe she ran. He watched her fingers carefully. The thin gloves showed off her hands. Her fingers were long and thin, and he could see no sign of a ring. As she pulled the cane from his father from the shelf, he cleared his throat.
---------------------------------------
Carrie jumped at the sound and put her hand to her chest. She stood up and back against the wall next to the safe. She eyed him carefully. "I'll put it back if you just don't call the police." She begged. This was her first real job, and she was terrified. She didn't need to lose everything she'd worked for. Her heart was racing in her chest. She was tempted to shift and run. She didn't though. She stood there like a deer caught in headlights.
----------------------------------------
Cal laughed and turned on the light. He nearly gasped. She was more gorgeous once the lights were on. "I have another idea." He said gently. She looked like she was either going to run or faint. He didn't want either. He walked toward her slowly, stopping when she flinched. "How about you keep the cane. My gift to you for the fantastic job you did cracking my safe. I must make sure to get a new one, though. That looked far too simple." He grinned at her and took another step forward. "All I ask in return for my gift to you is that, one, you not sell it as I assume you planned. And two, you allow me to take you out on a date."
-----------------------------------------
Carrie's jaw dropped. "You want to take a burglar who tried to rob you out on a date? Are you serious, or is this some kind of ruse to get me to stay put while the police arrive?" She was holding the cane close to her body as she pressed close to the wall. She slowly backed up as he approached and found herself in the corner with nowhere to go. She licked her lips out of nervousness and noticed how he was looking her up and down. She thought again of shifting, but felt like she couldn't for some reason. She looked down at the cane and back up at him. In a moment of clarity, she threw the cane at him and made a run for it.
----------------------------------------
Cal caught the cane and reached out an arm, catching her before she could get past him. She was fast, and with those bare feet, he guessed she was faster than with shoes. He pulled her to him and laughed. "No. I do not joke. There are no police on their way. You intrigue me." He looked her in the eye as he spoke. He found her eyes beautiful. A mixture of steel gray and ice blue. "Please agree. It would honor me to have you on my arm for a late meal, and perhaps dancing?" He looked at her lips and was tempted to kiss her, but instead, he released her.
-----------------------------------------
Carrie gasped when he caught her. How did he manage that? He also had a strange glow to his eyes, like an untapped power lay dormant somewhere inside of him. He wasn't joking, and that scared her almost more than if the cops were on their way. She almost regretted him letting her go, too. She looked him over, eyes darting from his eyes to his hands, then to the rest of his body. He was taller than her, but not by much. She took a single step backward and looked him back in the eye. "I have nothing to wear." She looked down at herself then back at him. His eyes were back on her body.
------------------------------------------
He admired the suit on her again. It was definitely made for her body. He looked back up and smiled. "Well, then it looks like we get to go shopping before dinner. You accepting my invitation?" He hoped she was. He didn't want to let her go. He hated using the police as a threat, but he would if it would mean she would agree to spending time with him. He stepped closer to her again, and was pleasantly surprised when she didn't back away. His eyes locked with hers as he closed the space between them. He put his arm around her waist in a smooth way and leaned in to her ear. "I am being a gentleman by asking to take you out instead of upstairs." He said in a husky whisper.
------------------------------------------
Carrie shivered at his warm breath on her neck. She turned her head to his. "Are you trying to seduce me..?" She stopped. She didn't even know his name. She'd never learned it when she got the details on the cane. "I don't even know your name, and you're attempting to seduce me." She smirked at him and slid out of his arm. "You are, aren't you? You would think me a common slut?" She laughed at him. The audacity! She couldn't believe the nerve of this man. Then she looked at the cane in his hand and over at the safe she'd cracked. She did owe him, but she wouldn't sleep with him. Even if he was devilishly attractive. "I'll agree to go out with you once. Dinner and dancing. That's all." She put her hand on her hip and held out the other one. "The deal was the cane for a date, am I wrong? And I pick the restaurant...and I drive my own car."
------------------------------------------
He laughed, loudly. She was bold. He handed her the cane. "It's a deal. But I have the plate number of your car. Nice Mitsubishi, by the way. You decide to make a run for it, and I call the police." He really hated saying that. He'd hope she wouldn't make him follow through. "As for anything more.." He smirked. "We'll see." He pulled out his cell phone and dialed a local boutique he bought from regularly. The women he'd wooed before seemed to love the place. "Yes, it's Callum Montgomery. I would like to bring in a friend to buy her something for this evening. I will make it worth you while to close early for a private shopping experience." He nodded and mhm'd a couple of times and hung up. He looked back at her and held out his hand. "My name, as you may have heard is Callum. Call me Cal."
------------------------------------------
Carrie took his offered hand and shook it. "Carrie." What was she doing? Was she really going to let him buy her clothes and food and take her dancing? Was she insane? She took a deep breath and pulled her hand from his. "Well, if we're going to do this, we should get going. I'll follow you. I'll decide on the restaurant while we shop." She headed for the door, cane in hand and grabbed her bag and stuffed everything back in it. She looked back and caught him staring at her ass while she packed up. "Eyes to yourself." She finished and stood, slipping on her shoes and heading out the door.

Note: For those that read thus far, thank you. I will be making a second post for the date. Trust me, it'll be worth the wait. This couple is vibrant in my head. Look for it soon.
