She looked at the clock again. Those imbiciles said they would be back hours ago. She needed to feed, but of course, without the money they were due back with, she couldn’t afford a Tru:Blood and would have to go hunt. Growling, she threw a lamp across the room, taking a small amount of satisfaction at the shattering sound. The last thing she ever wanted was to repeat the offense that made her a vampire. She cursed and sped from the room, slamming the hotel room door behind her.
She stopped suddenly at a strangely familiar scent coming from a room. She put her hand to the door, and out of nowhere, she was thrown into a memory from many years before…
Running at full vampspeed through the rainforest, unsure what she was searching for… The sounds of the nocturnal wilderness nearly deafening. She thought that getting out of civilization might help her get a handle on her new vampire urges, but it just seemed to be driving her more insane. She slowed and screamed at nature to quiet itself. She stopped, putting her hands over her ears and growling, red tears from frustration streaming down her cheeks. She sniffled and wiped her eyes, leaving bloody streaks across her face. She opened her eyes and looked around at the sound of angry and scared voices. Or was that in her head? She didn’t see any humans or vampires about, only a few gorillas. A voice clearly rang out in her head as a female grunted to one of the males. She was asking about the blood staining her face. She spoke up to answer the question: “I was crying,” she simply stated.
The female’s eyes went wide and she started panicking. Aryana cursed as the female came at her. She didn’t want to harm the animal, but self-preservation took over. Just as the female raised her big arms, Aryana sped to her back and clamped her fangs in before thinking anything through, and before the female realized anything.
After taking a few long pulls, she felt fur change to skin and opened her eyes, jumping back, accidentally tearing flesh. The human woman, now fallen to the forest floor in front of her, was crying and bleeding profusely. Aryana looked around as the other gorillas changed as well, rushing to help the woman. As they helped her lie back, Aryana saw the woman’s obviously pregnant belly…
She was snapped back to the present as the door her hand still rested on opened. In the doorway was a bald, very muscular, tan man looking her directly in the eyes. A moment of familiarity passed between the two strangers before he grunted and slammed the door in her face.
